Department Overview

  • Assets and Property manages tangible personal property in accordance with District policies and procedures, Mississippi statutes and rules of the State Auditor, which governs property accountability and control.

    The department's objective is to maintain accurate accountability of all capitalized and non-capitalized assets by properly identifying, tagging and recording information regarding location, responsible party and condition of public property in order to minimize loss, theft, or damage to the property. 

    We are responsible for the accuracy and completeness of the financial reporting related to Capital Projects, Debt Service, General Long Term Debt; recording, classifying and summarizing financial transactions and events in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), state ordinances and applicable legal mandates. This financial data is compiled in order to develop financial reports and the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR).

    Assets and Property encompasses two other departments, Fixed Asset Warehouse and Central Warehouse.

    The Assets and Property staff includes an Executive Director and three inventory clerks. Inventory clerks are responsible for conducting inventory of the districts’ 36 schools and other departments.

    The Fixed Asset Warehouse is comprised of four warehouse deliverymen, a receiving clerk and a data clerk. The department is responsible for pickup and delivery of all property and equipment in the District.

    The Central Warehouse consists of four warehouse deliverymen, four warehouse clerks and two office employees. The department is responsible for fulfilling orders for supplies received from the schools and various offices throughout the District.
