Ms. Jewel Jackson

Ms. Jewel Y. Jackson has served 8 years in the Jackson Public School District. Ms. Jackson is currently the Dean of Students at Forest Hill High School. She previously served as a first grade teacher (2015-2021) and librarian (2021-2022) at Marshall Elementary School. She also served as an Exceptional Education teacher (2022-2023) at Forest Hill High School. While at Marshall Elementary, Ms. Jackson held three Powerful Practices workshops, was the chairperson of their Positive Behavioral Intervention and Support (PBIS) team, chairperson for the Read Across America committee, School Testing Coordinator, and a recipient of the Mississippi Professional Educators NBCT Diverse Practitioner Scholarship. She also founded the Perfect Jewels mentorship for girls in 1st-5th grade at Marshall Elementary (2017-2022).

Currently, at Forest Hill High School, she has taken on the roles of the Academic and Performing Arts (APAC) coordinator, Advanced Placement co-coordinator, Summer Bridge coordinator, After-School Enrichment coordinator, Voter Registration coordinator, Social Media coordinator and After-School Detention coordinator. Ms. Jackson is an active volunteer in the community, often volunteering with the youth at the Boys & Girls Club of Jackson and Knowledge Camp University (KCU).

Ms. Jackson was born in Washington, D.C., grew up in Hyattsville, MD and now resides in Jackson, MS. She is an alumna of Jackson State University. She graduated from Jackson State University in December 2014 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education and again in April 2018 with a Master’s degree in Reading Education. She also graduated from Belhaven University with a Specialist Degree in Educational Administration. Ms. Jackson is currently ABD status for her doctoral degree in Educational Administration at Belhaven University with a focus in Assistant Principals' Readiness to Pursue Principalship in Mississippi and Factors Influencing Readiness.

Ms. Jackson is thrilled to serve as Dean of Students at Forest Hill High School. Her goal is to ensure that all students demonstrate significant and consistent achievement gains, internalize the school’s culture and values, and help lead the school’s efforts in fostering a culture that is positive, structured, consistent, and disciplined.

During her free time, Ms. Jackson enjoys shopping, watching movies, and spending time with family.
